Talking about Sri Lankan teledrama, some of you might be the fans of the works. Sri Lanka was initially establishing an independent television station in 1979 but a few months later the government took over the station.
Later in 1982, another corporation in Sri Lanka established another television station. Since then, this country has many private television stations that produce films, teledramas, and many more. When it comes to teledramas from this country, there are several iconic teledrama stories over the decades.
Koombiyo
The first name on the list, we have ‘Kombiyo’. This is a teledrama released in 2017 and makes its mark since the first episode was aired. This teledrama is starring several known actors like Yurei Noshika, Andrew Pulle, Senaka Titus Anthony, Kalana Gunasekara, and Thumindu Dodantenna.

The premise of this teledrama is a team that exploits loopholes in the national law to make money. Initially, this tv show was rejected due to the main idea of conmen. Just a month after the first episode was aired, this teledrama got the highest-rated television series in Sri Lanka with the crime genre according to the IMDB, higher than ‘The Wire’ and ‘Breaking Bad’.
Doo Daruwo
The next name on the list of the Sri Lankan teledrama we have ‘Doo Daruwo’ which means ‘offspring’ in English. This drama series is putting the family in the front line. This teledrama was also the first mega teledrama in Sri Lanka from 1990 to 1995.
Starring Yashoda Wimaladharma, Henry Jayasena, and Iranganie Serasinghe. The story focuses on the life of Sudhu Achhchi played by Iranganie Serasinghe along with her offspring and the kids.

According to the producer, this teledrama was made so everyone can watch it with the family altogether. This is why there is no violence and adultery in this teledrama. It can be touted that Doo Daruwo ran pretty long compared to other teledramas in Sri Lanka until today.
Dimuthu Muthu
When Sri Lanka has its first private tv stations, Dimuthu Muthu was the first teledrama aired. Other than that, this one was the first colored television show across South Asia. The series was aired in 1982 starring Chitra Wakista, Navanandana Wijeysinghe, Amarasiri Kalansuriya, and Devika Mihirani. This teledrama is about values of a traditional village, compassion, and love in the first place, focusing on the story of a girl named Nanda played by Mihirani.

Kopi Kade
Another name on the list Kopi Kade. This teledrama ran pretty long as well, initially aired in 1987 and still goes on until today. At least six directors are involved in the making of this teledrama. The story is about a store that sells groceries where any information, gossips, and things passed by. Just like its premise, this teledrama discusses more social issues in the country.
Palingu Menike
The last name on the list is Palingu Menike. It was aired between 1984 and 1985. The premise of this teledrama is about how an open economy gives traditional values. Due to its popularity, this Sri Lankan teledrama has been re-telecast ten times until today.
